Located along Sri Lanka’s southern coastline, Dickwella is known for its immaculate beaches and the coral reef, which is found beneath exquisite turquoise waters. Overlooking the beauty and set on a hill, UTMT - Underneath The Mango Tree Spa & Beach Resort features an individually managed boutique hotel, a competent Ayurvedic spa and an enjoyable beach hotel. Despite the abundance of marvelous palm trees that surrounds the property, the owners fell in love with something else: "lonely" mango trees with their sweet fruits, scattered around UTMT's area.

Surrounded by 273 coconut trees and mango trees, Sri Lanka's most southern Beach and Spa Hotel features 22 unique rooms and villas. A variety of modern room types offer garden or sea views and each room has a mosquito net. A private bathroom with bathtub, outdoor shower, hairdryer, free Wi-Fi and free toiletries are included. Lose yourself staring at the horizon over the Indian Ocean while soaking in your very own private pool or perhaps enjoy listening to the ocean's surf on the beach. Maybe you would enjoy sitting back, relaxing and taking advantage of browsing through UTMT's books in the tea salon while your palate gets to know Ceylon's tea-variety. For those more active and adventurous, Underneath The Mango Tree Spa & Beach Resort also has a tennis court and offers water sport facilities and a shared lounge. Sporty guests can go cycling, hiking and diving.

Wewurukannala Vihara Temple, which features Sri Lanka’s largest Buddha statue at 160 feet high, is 2.5 miles away. Matara Railway Station is 12.4 miles away while Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport is 37.9 miles from the resort.

Food

The UTMT Hotel restaurant features not only an incredible view of the Indian Ocean, but also culinary highlights from Sri Lanka's thrilling and spicy cuisine. Long communal tables under an open structure or intimate tables for two on the terrace will await you for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The UTMT team loves good food and regional and seasonal products are the pillars of their cuisine. The team travels a lot throughout the country to try and taste the food and to visit local farmers. They pick and choose the best Sri Lanka has to offer. Be it Nalin's fish, Ravi's papaya, Roshan's buffalo milk or Dinesh's vegetables - they need to know their suppliers personally.

Besides the focus on Sri Lanka's overwhelming world of spices, they will also let their European and Austrian backgrounds influence thier cooking. Right now they are making their own brezels, baking their own bread and Austrian pastries, and producing their own jam with a selection of Sri Lankan fruits. Be sure that they will find the appropriate choice to overwhelm your palate: nature's best fruits from their own UTMT fruit stand, your Singhalese inspired egg-dish in the morning or the classic chicken curry for dinner on the picturesque terrace.

  Matara, Sri Lanka

Dikwella is a small coastal market town in the Matara district in Southern province of Sri Lanka. Located 22 km east of the city of Matara, it is noted for its long sandy beach which is protected by headlands, reefs and sand-bars, making it safer for swimming. The headlands have reefs along their rocks, close to the beach. At both the Pehambiya end and the western end, swimmers can snorkel out from the beach to watch colourful reef fish amongst the rocks. Local in shore fishermen, especially at the sheltered Pehambiya end, mostly use colourful small Oru outrigger canoes which are easier to manoeuvre over the seasonal shifting sand-bars.

Dikwella is the location of Sri Lanka's largest seated Buddha statue, which is 50 metres (160 ft) tall. Walls in the rooms of the building behind the statue are decorated with a 'library' of colourful pictures depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha and punishments of miscreants. Dikwella has colorful Buddhist festivals during the months of May, June & July. These celebrations usually include daytime and torch-lit night-time processions of caparisoned temple elephants, dancers and musicians. The size and pattern of these celebrations vary from year to year.

Colombo International Airport is located 3.5 hours north of Dickwella.
