Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous archipelago off the coast of Tanzania consisting of Zanzibar Island and it is also rated as the no. 2 Best Beach in the world according to Places to See in Your Lifetime! Nungwi is a charming little village located at the northern tip of Zanzibar. The village is very popular with tourists since swimming in the ocean is possible even at low tide seasons. The Nungwi Beach was ranked by CNN as the 43rd out of 100 Best Beaches in the world.


From a simple fishing village and dhow-building center, Nungwi has steadily become one of Africa’s most picturesque lines of coast, where palms amble onto a beach that dissolves gradually from spearmint blue into shades of deep turquoise. At sunset, white-sailed dhows leave from the boatyard, making for a great photo op.


The beach is one of the main attractions of this village. You can snorkel, swim, scuba dive on its crystal clear waters. Most of the dive centers also offer night dives, while the reef is not so great during the day, the night dives give you a chance to see all kinds of life that isn't out during the day including octopus, Spanish dancers, and even cuttlefish.


You can take a 2 hour sunset cruise on a dhow down to Kendwa and back. Alternatively, hire the whole dhow and enjoy a private cruise, lingering where you wish. You can also visit the Mnarani Aquarium/Sea Turtle Conservation area or take an adventure around the Northern region of Zanzibar with Zanzibar Cycling Adventures. It is an exciting new tour taking people around some hidden and beautiful places in the north villages of Zanzibar while you ride on a bicycle.


From Stone Town, getting to Nungwi Village takes between 1 and 2 hours. You can hire a car of make transport services for an additional cost. You can also hire a taxi from Stone Town ferry terminal or ride a dala dala bus #116 from Creek Road in Stone Town.

HOURS + TOPICS

Learn techniques and tools in teaching yoga through different yoga styles including Vinyasa Flow, Dynamic Hatha based on Ashtanga and Yin Yoga. Alignment workshops will include demonstration, observation, modifications and adjustments. You will also learn hands-on adjustments.

Learn what pranayama is and why it is beneficial. You will also gain knowledge about practicing and learning how to teach different pranayama techniques.

Learn OM mantra meditation, dynamic dancing meditation and silent meditations.

Learn about the science of sound and the chanting OM.

You will learn the qualities of a yoga teacher, principles of observation, sequencing creative and intelligent flowing classes, and how to sequence the different categories of asanas. You will be taught how to give clear, precise verbal cues as well as learn the yoga profession.

Learn how to practically apply Pantanjali’s yoga sutras into your life and learn how to incorporate the teachings into your yoga classes. Gain an understanding of the benefits of yoga on the body, mind & spirit. Study the history of yoga and how it has evolved and gain knowledge on yoga lifestyle and ethics for yoga teachers.

Gain an understanding about the subtle energetic anatomy: chakras, nadis, grantis, koshas, gunas, tattvas, doshas, 5 pranas, bhandas and how yoga influences your energetic body. Learn about functional anatomy in yoga. Discover common yoga injuries and how to avoid them. 

Practice one to one teaching and teaching in groups. Learn how to give and receive adjustments; modifications and variations. You will teach a mini workshop and give a 10 min lecture where you will receive and give feedback and observing other students teaching.

Learn about the links between the latest scientific research of subtle energy and what the ancient yogis have been saying for years. Understand the links between scientific research on the electromagnetic heart, neuroscience and scientific analysis of the human energy field and yoga.

Certification

Upon completing this course, you will be given a Yoga Certification which will allow you to register with Yoga Alliance International and teach globally.

Casa Umoja is a one storey house with 5 rooms. Additionally, Casa Umoja offers 4 bungalows which are embedded in its spacious tropical garden. There are 5 uniquely decorated rooms and 4 individually designed bungalows in different styles. Each room and bungalow is equipped with ensuite bathrooms, hot showers, ceiling fans, mosquito nets and private verandahs.

You can also choose shared tourist mini buses leaving daily from Stone Town to Nungwi at 8:00 am. Local buses (daladalas) are also available for a small fee but the journey might be less comfortable and notably longer because of many passengers and many stops along the road.
