Location

Santa Elena, Ecuador

Once a sleepy little fishing village in the 60's, the village of Montanita grew to become a beach destination that hosts some of the most challenging waves ever found in Latin America. The waves are often strong and consistent and persist throughout the seasons, presenting a challenge to advanced surfers and being a little trickier for your average surfer to ride. Renowned worldwide and a venue for international surfing competitions, it's definitely a must-go for any surfer.

Off the shore, Montanita's tourist population over the years has made the local culture evolve into a colorful mixture of races, faces, and practices from all around the world. Affectionately called a "partying town with a surfing problem," Montanita's streets are lined with bars, clubs, and cafes with all the entertainment you might want on dry land.

All these experiences are affordable too - so much so that it's not uncommon for guests to extend their stay in this village, due to the vast amount of activities that are available. Aside from a bustling nightlife and coastal attractions, Montanita can cater to any tourist's whims, whether they prefer a more laid-back holiday with some margaritas, exciting days filled with challenging waves, or nights of fun and galore with people from all over the world.
