Rukgala was conceived from a passion and enthusiasm for this very beautiful and still pretty unknown part of Sri Lanka. Out of a crumbly, empty old house the team have fashioned something they hope will make an ideal sanctuary, both for those wanting extended retreat space and those just seeking a shorter escape in the hills.
The goal has been to offer spaces where people can enjoy time together, experience a very honest and open side of Sri Lanka, and from which they can take something not so often found in the tourist guides.
While the focus has been to create something ideal for retreat leaders of all sorts, the team are equally keen to welcome guests traveling independently; those that will appreciate really great, healthy Sri Lankan food...active, occasionally even adventurous, days...and a uniquely restorative spot.
This retreat will awaken your adventurous side and soothe your contemplative side with a perfect blend of yoga, meditation, hiking and wild swimming.
With surroundings that inspire a deep connection with nature, this retreat is a beautiful sanctuary that tastefully blends luxurious comfort and spacious elegance.
Immersed in the peace and tranquility of nature, mornings will begin in the stunning jungle shala with Vinyasa flow and guided meditation to feel clear, connected and resilient.
Explore the connection with nature and focus on how nature can be used to enhance mindfulness practice, foster wellbeing, and cultivate insight into the self.
Evenings will be your time to slow down and melt into a restorative practice that will gently relieve the body, quiet the mind and soothe the nervous system. Candles, incense and soulful music will create the ideal atmosphere for total relaxation and deep rest.
Get off the beaten track to celebrate some of Sri Lankas most beautiful hidden spots! Guided by a naturalist, there will be a hike through stunning landscapes with wonderful wildlife watching opportunities and plenty of fun facts along the way.
Spend time at the top to drink in the magnificent views and a flask of Sri Lankan tea! The hike is a 4km round trip and the whole excursion takes around 4 hrs at a relaxed pace.
There'll also be plenty of time over the weekend to unwind and recharge by the pool, or in the gorgeous open plan comfort of the resort with its splendid views of the rolling hills.
The weekend retreat includes your two nights luxury accommodation, wholesome food everyday, yoga sessions, meditations, a guided hike, wild swims, unlimited tea, coffee and water and pick up from Kandy.
