The asana classes are varied, reflecting the breadth of the team’s teaching experience and preference for diversity. 


Students can expect to learn asana from the Vinyasa Flow tradition, as well as elements of Viniyoga, Iyengar Yoga and Yin Yoga styles. 


The subjects that are explored in the discussion section are first actively practiced in the Breath and Asana classes, so that students gain experiential knowledge.


Class sizes are deliberately intimate, with a maximum of 20 people per class, so that teachers can give students high quality attention and care. 

This 4-week course empowers students with a systematic and deep understanding of the physical, philosophical and energetic aspects of yoga. 

This teacher training includes a comprehensive exploration of yoga postures, a powerful and practical approach to developing a daily pranayama (yogic breath-work) and meditation practice, an in-depth study of yogic and Tantric philosophy, workshops on the use of mudras, bandhas and mantra for inner transformation, an introduction to the power of Yoga Nidra, workshops on how to structure a yoga class, how to give adjustments and how to open, hold and close space when teaching yoga, weekly yogic fire ceremonies.

The Sanctuary offers a wide range of taste-tempting, freshly prepared dishes, made with love and imagination, from super-healthy to super-naughty and everything in between! The Sanctuary Restaurant is renowned for its fine vegetarian food. Sample traditional Thai cuisine and scrumptious vegetarian dishes from around the world. The chefs bake a selection of fresh cakes and wholemeal bread daily, as well as raw vegan desserts and healthy snacks. No M.S.G. or preservatives are used in their cooking. They also offer a comprehensive raw cleansing menu of dishes that are suitable for pre- and post-fast diets, and tasty enough to be enjoyed by everyone. Healthy eating doesn’t have to be boring!

Other options are also available in Haad Tien and the neighbouring beaches- you will be spoilt for taste and nutrition during your stay.

HOURS + TOPICS

Twice daily you will cultivate the asana practice. The practice has a flow and a rhythm but is a little bit slower than many Vinyasa and Power Vinyasa styles because the team values the quality of your poses. When one takes things slower, one has time to build up the prana and energy in a pose by working on the alignment, the comfort and above all, the breathing. The main types of poses that you cultivate are: preparation poses, core strengtheners, standing poses, arm balance, inversions such as headstand and handstand, back bends, forward bends, twists and the deeper calming poses. Daily alignment adjustment is offered to ensure students build a safe personal practice and have an embodied understanding of each posture.

During this course we offer daily dedicated Pranayama classes which include our unique Swara Yoga system of rhythmic movement and breath, along with the seated practice of pranayama. Swara Yoga is designed to give students of all levels easy access to the profound power of yogic breathing and builds the foundation to practice advanced pranayama including Ujaii, Antara, Bhaya & Kevala Kumbhaka, Viloma, Kapalabatti, Bastrika, Nowli Kriya, Anulom Vilom, Chandra & Surya Bhedana, Nadi Shodhana, Sama & Visama Vritti.



The course explores a variety of accessible and powerful meditation techniques to develop inner calm, insight, clarity and wisdom. Many of our meditations are based on the 5 Elements of yoga: Stability, Flow, Intensity, Movement and Emptiness. Other techniques are also utilized such as those based on witnessing, visualization or using sounds such as mantras. These meditations source from the lineages of traditional Tantra, Buddhism & Taoism. Some meditations are active, some seated, and we offer regular practice of Yoga Nidra for deep restoration.

Each day includes a discussion of yoga philosophy & practices. These classes address the foundations of yoga and include texts such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali & Hatha Yoga Pradipika. The content of these lectures is kept quite simple so that all students grasp the core content in a way which is relevant to their practice, teaching and daily life. Throughout the course, these classes also expand to cover a broad scope of topics including; yoga history, meditation, traditional Tantric and Shakta traditions, yoga as a spiritual path, Ayurvedic medicine, Jyotish (Indian Astrology) and Taoism.

Anatomy is taught for understanding the postures and breath, covering essentials of tissues, bones and organs. You will look at the various systems of the physical body to help you understand how and why the yoga works the way it does and how you can use yoga to address problem areas and to help improve fundamental health and well-being. Study the alignment of the postures in depth so that students know how to build and teach the asanas in a step-by-step fashion so teachers can guide students of all levels & abilities. 

One of the most unique and special parts of the training is the fire puja, which you will experience on the beach in the evening, once a week. It is a simple and beautiful traditional ritual. You will chant the mantras that you learned in the classes and focus on the fire as a method of purifying the mind and inducing meditation. The ritual is very transformative but is also fun and lighthearted. This is often students’ favorite part of the course.

The art of teaching yoga requires a clear and open voice, strong knowledge of alignment & breath, creative sequencing, knowledge of modification and adjustment, and the ability to hold a transformative space. This program addresses all of these and many more. Learn how to understand the energetic qualities of each posture, and how to arrange yoga sequences so that a class flows in an energetic pattern which is intelligently balanced. A daily practice of bite-sized teaching exercises encourages students to explore the awkward first stages of learning how to teach within a loving, private and supportive workshop environment.

Certification

The Jungle Yoga is a Yoga Alliance-fully certified school. Students who complete a course successfully can apply for yoga teacher certification with Yoga Alliance or other international yoga organisations.

The Sanctuary, Venue for 4- Week 200Hr Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training

The Sanctuary is a laid-back, alternative holiday and wellness resort set just where the beach meets the jungle on a magical corner of Koh Phangan. People from around the world come here to unwind, relax and enjoy the wide range of yoga, detox and healing therapies and programs on offer. On site is a range of accommodation options from dorm rooms to simple bungalows to open-air houses to air conditioned villas. There are three yoga shalas, a beautiful spa, a wellness and cleansing center, colonics, steam room and a wonderful restaurant that offers delicious vegetarian cuisine and hosts a range of evenings including open-mic night, movie nights and special events.

The most direct way to get Ko Phangan is to fly from Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong or Kuala Lumpur to Koh Samui with Bangkok Air. The Sanctuary can arrange a private speedboat to or from the airport directly to the beach.

Alternatively, catch the ferry boats. Ferries leave from Big Buddha Pier on Koh Samui and arrive at Haad Rin on Koh Phangan. Simply take a ten minute longtail boat ride from Haad Rin around to Haad Tien. Getting to The Sanctuary can be part of the adventure- but always worthwhile!
