Created as a true temple of sanctuary, echoing the beauty and purpose of ancient Khmer Aquifers, THE BARAI Spa is an enchanting escape from the frenetic outside world.

The Barai was designed by the renowned Thai architect, Khun Lek Bunnag, who was first inspired to create this project when he visited the Baton Temple in Cambodia’s Angkor. THE BARAI is named after ‘Barays’, the large man-made reservoirs created by the Khmers to channel irrigated water for their daily use, believed to be the life arteries of the empire, and as a source of life, wellbeing and healing.

The resort is along the Khao Takiap Road near Nong Kae-Takiap, one of the main roads in the area.

An old two-storey pavilion on the beach front, dating back to the 19th century, has been restored and transformed into an elegant and breezy casual dining area, offering an ambient setting with 180 degree views of the Gulf of Thailand. The house is open to the public for all-day dining on the ground floor, and the upper floor is reserved exclusively for THE BARAI guests. It serves fresh snacks, light, healthy meals and a variety of blended juices and cleansing infusion teas.

  Hua Hin, Thailand

Prachuap Khiri Khan is a quiet bay that gently cradles the Andaman Sea. Prominently known to be a fishing site for many Thai fishermen, the place has tall limestone mountains overlooking the whole coastline. This lovely coastline is a common summer go-to place for the locals to visit and in more recent years and quietly developed into a favourable destination for international holiday makers.

Hua Hin is a seaside resort in the southern region of Prachuap Khiri Khan. Once a quiet fishing village, it grew into a fashionable escape for residents of Bangkok after the 1920s, when the Thai royal family built summer palaces here, making it well known as one of Thailands original beach resort destinations. While maintaining a quiet and laid-back atmosphere, Hua Hin is a refreshing mix of city and sea with an almost cosmopolitan ambiance, lively markets, good golf courses and water parks and international cuisine.

Hua Hin is easy to navigate around and there are the usual tuktuks, taxis and motorcycles. Prices are usually fixed for these rides. It is possible to get to Hua Hin by train from Bangkok but most visitors prefer to travel by taxi or minivan. The usual travel time from Bangkok to Hua Hin takes a little under three hours, making Hua Hin the perfect city break destination.
