Location

Sintra, Portugal

A former civil parish in the municipality of Lisbon, Sao Joao das Lampas, Sintra is a Portuguese fairy tale. With its rippling mountains, dewy forests thick with ferns and lichen, exotic gardens and glittering palaces, Sao Joao das Lampas, Sintra is like a page torn from a story book. Sintra has become quite popular, and it's hard to escape the tourist masses especially in summer, but its majestic beauty is worth it. The golden sandy beaches of the Sintra coast, close to Lisbon, are very popular and offer excellent restaurants to relish a fish meal and a good, refreshing white wine, like Colares, for example.

Sintra, the Moon Hill, is a place full of magic and mystery, where Nature and Man have combined in such a perfect symbiosis that UNESCO has granted it Word Heritage Site status. Its exotic gardens, exuberant parks with meandering footpaths amid century-old trees, fancifully decorated palaces, small ponds with inviting recesses and fake ruins in the middle of the natural landscape are undoubtedly sources of inspiration for a special moment.

Sintra is reached quite easily by car from Lisbon. Leaving town on the A37 motorway to the west you will get to the A16, from where you can follow the signs to Sintra (travel time from the airport approx. 25 minutes). Be aware that Sintra itself is dreadful for car traffic, also because of the large number of tourist buses coming into town. Most roads are one-way only, and side streets are extremely narrow and often steep. The best is to park your car in one of the free car parks at the outskirts of town, and walk from there.

You can fly to Portugal's largest international airport, Aeroporto da Portela, located between Loures and Lisboa. By road, Sintra is about 20 kilometers from Lisbon on the IC19 road, and you can stop at the Queluz Palace. A usual drive will take you back along the coast, past Colares, Almoçageme, Guincho, Cascais and Estoril, carrying on the seafront road to Lisbon. By public transport, one of the most comfortable ways of getting to Sintra is by train. Departing from the Rossio station, the trip from Lisbon to Sintra takes about 40 minutes.

Food

Enjoy a feast of delectable and exquisite meals during your stay. You will be served sumptuous guilt-free buffet breakfasts, 5 yummy lunches, and 6 light dinners on your retreat so you can have the energy to enjoy the activities ahead. The meals are mostly organic and locally sourced so the food is of the highest quality. The recipes are also plant-based or vegetarian and the team can easily cater to special diets such as vegan, gluten, and dairy free.
