3D The Sanctuary Yoga Holiday Retreat

Koh Phangan has been a popular travel destination for holiday makers, backpackers and yoga enthusiasts for decades. Being the 'little sister' to Koh Samui island, Ko Phangan is a little more alternative, a little more off-the-beaten-track and a little more rugged- in the best possible way. Located halfway between the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand, it is known for its coconut trees, majestic beaches and striking full moon sightings. Its easy way of life and laid-back nature really does make it the perfect place to unwind and relax.

The Sanctuary Thailand has been a much-loved destination for many years and guests tend to return time and time again, addicted to the quirky nature, the rugged jungle, the hideaway beaches and the eccentric mix of people that makes this place so very special.

There are three yoga shalas, a beautiful spa, a wellness and cleansing center, colonics, steam room and a wonderful restaurant that offers delicious vegetarian cuisine and hosts a range of evenings including open-mic night, movie nights and special events.

The most direct way to get Ko Phangan is to fly from Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong or Kuala Lumpur to Koh Samui with Bangkok Air. The Sanctuary can arrange a private speedboat to or from the airport directly to the beach.

Alternatively, catch the ferry boats. Ferries leave from Big Buddha Pier on Koh Samui and arrive at Haad Rin on Koh Phangan. Simply take a ten minute longtail boat ride from Haad Rin around to Haad Tien. Getting to The Sanctuary can be part of the adventure- but always worthwhile!

When you ask guests what the highlight of their time at The Sanctuary was, often you will hear them reply- the food! The Sanctuary's famous vegetarian restaurant offers a wide range of mouth-watering meals, snacks and drinks daily from 8 A.M. to 9 P.M. featuring Thai, Indian, Vietnamese and Western dishes, as well as an extensive raw food menu.

This retreat package includes a welcome meal in the restaurant and a complimentary tea at the tea temple upon arrival.

Start your day with colourful smoothies, homemade granola and yogurt, fresh fruit or their cooked vegetarian favourites. The diverse menu features everything from amazing veggie burgers to warming curries, nori rolls, Indian dahl, vibrant salads and plenty of excellent Thai favourites. Everything at The Sanctuary is made from scratch- their freshly baked dread, dips, yogurt, desserts and more. Locally caught fresh seafood is also available and don't miss out on their pizza selection too!

And who says desserts can't be healthy? Try their selection of raw, vegan, gluten-free cakes as well as their own line of signature raw chocolate.

If you wish to combine your yoga holiday with a little detox, you are also welcome to join The Sanctuary's Raw Fest- a cleansing program which focuses on raw foods, fresh coconuts with spirulina and wheatgrass shots!

From the smiling staff, the funky abodes, the jungle yoga shala, the AMAZING food, the pristine beach, the fun events, the passionate teachers and the people from all walks of life that appear on this bay- it all creates a truly life-changing journey.

No matter how far you travel and how many locations steal your breath away, a couple stay in your heart and whisper to you daily- The Sanctuary Thailand is one of those. People come for a few days and stay a few weeks, others come for a month and stay for a year- there is something almost indescribable, but certainly tangible, about the magic of this place. Your time at The Sanctuary will stay with your forever. Don't take my word for it- experience it for yourself.
